Long Domain Name - How To Discuss

Long Domain Name

Definition

Domain names exceed the original 26 characters, up to a theoretical limit of 67 characters (including an extension such as .com).

Information

Long domain names were created in late 1999 to give domain names more flexibility (and more money for domain registrars). Previously, domain names were limited to 26 characters, forcing companies with long names to look for shorter alternatives.

SEOs are eager to jump on the long domain name train, as evidenced by the number of keyword-packed domains in circulation.

Domain keywords don't automatically place a page at the top of the rankings, but it can be assumed that even a small advantage in the competition for popular search terms can be an advantage. However, this strategy can backfire if people don't view the domains as trustworthy.
