Acceptable Ads - How To Discuss

Acceptable Ads

Acceptable ads are a set of criteria for advertising on a website. Created by parent company AdBlock Plus, it is a set of standards designed to prevent intrusive and annoying ads. The point is, if websites meet this standard, then ad blockers shouldn't block ads on them.

The standard consists of three main parts:

  1. Ads may not appear in the main content of the page. They can only appear above or next to the content.
  2. Ads should be marked as ads (next to ads or similar).
  3. Ads should not be too large or take up too much screen space.
    1. This means that ads should be less than 15% at the top of the page and less than 25% at the bottom of the page (easy to crawl).
    2. Ads above the content should be no larger than 200px (meaning you should use 728x90, not 970x250).
    3. Ads along with content cannot exceed 350px (not for standard ads).
    4. Ads with insufficient content should not be higher than 400 pixels (in any case, do not show ads with insufficient content as they will not perform well).

Should I participate in eligible ads?

These acceptable advertising standards are easy to follow, so there's no reason to avoid them. You want your users to feel comfortable on your site and you don't want your ads blocked. So it's not a bad idea to follow these guidelines.

However, in terms of the most acceptable ad, there's little reason to recommend it. If you follow this standard, be sure to join us. Joining Acceptable Ads is free for publishers with less than 10 million ad impressions per month.

However, keep in mind that AdBlock Plus users can block their ads at any time and other ad blockers don't necessarily fall into this scheme. In fact, other ad blockers make a big deal out of how AdBlock Plus skips some ads, but they don't.

I also couldn't find any stats on why this scheme is a good idea (let me know if you find one). No reports have been released showing how much extra money the sites have made since joining this program. This is not surprising, as the adblocker doesn't want to talk about how many ads it hasn't blocked, but it's still not a confirmation.

While I don't think you will lose money by not using the ad spaces they list, you should consider the installation costs. You may need to go back and add ads to all of your ads or remove them from your content. Depending on the configuration, the time required for this can be significant and should not be neglected.
